May is Miami Museum Month ! That means discounts on Museum admission and even memberships. So the team at God’s Way Radio got to visit one of the museums participating and we had a great time. It was an excellent summer day at Miami Beach, warm breezes rolling in off the ocean, grabbed a great parking spot right on the street, and then we found it…
That vibrant, fun looking building, is just a taste of what you can find inside. You’re the Wolfsonian museum, described by its curator as a “museum of art and design.” We had the privilege of interviewing Silvia Barisione, the Curator, and Whitney Richardson, Assistant Curator, about the museum, current and upcoming exhibits, and what their job entails. We’re so thankful to our friend Meg Floryan, Communications Manager at the museum, and all of the staff who made this possible.
As we made out way inside and got checked by security, we walked through what will be an exhibit called Long Road To Now and then went up to the sixth floor, which currently houses the exhibit Modern Dutch Design, but only until June 11th! Once we found the right spot and set up our gear, it was time to sit and talk with Silvia and Whitney. Check our the video below for the full interview (including several pictures from current and upcoming exhibits):
We look forward to visiting again in the future, especially to see the exhibition North and South, which (as described by Whitney in our interview) showcases photgrapher Berenice Abbotts journey along the road U.S Route 1 in the year 1954 (opens June 9th). For all of you who have younger children please make sure to check out the Wolfsonians Free Family Days (next one coming up June 3rd). All in all it was a great time and we hope that you’ve learned more about the Wolfsonian and some of what Miami has to offer in terms of museums and culture. Remember to tune in Tuesday, May 30th, at 7:30 a.m., as we talk about our visit live on air.
If you enjoyed this look at the Wolfsonian Museum in Miami Beach and the stories of its curators, make sure to say so on Facebook, Twitter, or by leaving us a message through the form on our website. If you decide to go to the Wolfsonian or any other museums in our area we’d be so thrilled to hear about it! You can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to tell us how it went, send us some pictures, and who knows, you may end up on our next blog post or even on the radio.
